The owner of this home, an interior designer, was referred to us from a friend. She hired us to do a complete remodel of the main floor of her home, and because of her profession, she knew she exactly what she wanted.

The goals of the project included:

  • Updating the look – it was quite dated, and the homeowner wanted something fresh and current
  • Brightening up the main floor – with darker maple trim, the home seemed to lack a bright and airy feel

The first thing we did was take out a wall to open the kitchen into the rest of the main floor. This not only brought a bright and airy feel to the home, but it also tied together all the elements nicely.

The kitchen was completely redone, including new floors, Cambria counters, cabinets, appliances and a subway tile backsplash. The client chose all-white cabinets, complimented by black counters, and a blue island with a white marbly counter to help achieve the look she wanted.

Next, we extended the new hardwood floors from the kitchen into the rest of the main floor and installed new crown molding and new millwork on the trim throughout.

The client had some existing cabinetry, such as an entertainment unit, that stayed so we simply worked around it, as well as the fireplace mantle, touching each of them up and tying their look with the new look of the home.

The entire project took about two-and-a-half months from start to finish, during which time the client slept in the basement.

When the project was complete, our client was pleased with the final look and with how smooth the project went.
